The 2002 Masters of the Universe gave us a swell reason to love Two Bad. We got to meet both Tuvar and Badra, originally two bounty hunters in separate bodies. Of course Skeletor got involved, and well... too bad! This new figure was one of many more subscription-only figures, I assume no doubt due to cost and maybe even selling them at a bit of a loss, all things considered. This is a pretty fancy figure, so it's no surprise that the paint details on the shield were dropped. Two heads ain't cheap.
As always the 7-inch buck has been modified, although this time there are tons of new parts. The purple half is sculpted with incredibly scales, and it appears all of the purple bits are totally new. Badra's blue half reuses a few arm and leg pieces, but the double-headed torso, new glove, and new boot were probably still pretty expensive. The double-headed chest armor has some metallic orange markings on it that really make the details pop nicely.
Since I adored the bad guys in the 2002 cartoon, this was a figure I was itching to own for a while (even though I had the version from that line.) While it unfortunately lacks any cool action features, the two heads feel like a fantasy painting come to life. The sharp teeth on each head and the armored unibrow just reach out and grab you, with the blue head's subtle fins-as-hair seeming like it stepped right out of the 1980s - just as it should. Some metallic highlights on the purple half help make the costume pop a bit more, and this figure feels like it has more paint applications than normal. It's like Rattlor - it just feels expensive.
You get two accessories here, including a nicely done mace with two heads plus a big orange shield. The shield clips nicely on the arm, while the open hand has no problems gripping the silver and black melee weapon. As the left fist can't actually grip anything, well, there's nothing to worry about there. Two Bad can hold all of his accessories and there's nowhere that could store another one. I really dig it.
With Two Bad, the bulk of Skeletor's Evil Warriors are now rendered in plastic. If you watched the cartoons, the major players are now available to you with some Horde guys and Snake Men awaiting release. Oh, and Ninjor. Man, I hope we get Ninjor soon. It's sort of fantastic and unfortunate to cross this major player off the list, because along with Ram Man this means that the bulk of the heaviest of heavies have been rendered in plastic. There are plenty of minor characters to do, plus a few variant costumes, but only a dozen or so characters remain unannounced from the original boy's toy line. Seeing the collection come together is quite satisfying, but it's also a little sad to see that a line that has perpetually surprised and delighted me for years may be ending soon just because the nostalgia that fuels its engines has all but run out. Ah well! In short: get yourself a Two Bad if you can. I assume this will probably be my favorite figure from Mattel in 2014, although Modulok is pretty fantastic too.
