Onell Design Glyos Neo Granthan Vrylless Action FigureWhile the name (and an unhelmeted hand-molded head) existed for a while, the mass-produced mold is new here! One of three releases, the Neo Granthan Vrylless marks the replacement of the wolf headed Armorvor in favor of a dinosaur-headed Granthan. Two other figures hit at the same time, each of which use the classic Armorvor body with a new head. The wolf helmet head is still here, and you get 18 total parts as always.

This Neo Granthan is cast in black plastic which seems similar (if not identical) to my Hades Mimic Armorvor from a few years ago. The paint is clearly different, drawing inspiration from... I'm not sure. It feels like it's drawing from a few different baddies from the 1980s as well as Animated Lockdown, with a pink "Black Core" and green highlights. The main reason to buy this figure - assuming you don't already own an Armorvor - is that introduces the long-teased new head. We didn't know what it was going to be, and the furry wolf head has been replaced by a helmeted head that looks sort of like the love child of a dinosaur and a Power Lords creature, done up in the Onell Design house style.

The figure's head is taller and certainly adds height to the figure, although it also gives the figure an even more exaggerated silhouette. The head is almost as big as the torso, giving it a potentially unintentional - but nifty - youthful appearance. A smaller head probably wouldn't work as well due to the level of detail. At first glance it feels like an overdesigned face with too many deep grooves and wrinkles, but if you take a minute or so to really give it a solid look you'll notice tons of patterns and the Granthan personality starts to emerge from within. The nose is particularly wonderful, with lots of turns and curves all resulting in a big pointed snout. This figure has huge nostrils and a stern expression completed by eyes that are similar to that of the wolf Armorvor head, complete with the black partial outline.

Looking at the army of Armorvors, I don't have much I can say about the body that hasn't been said previously - each joint is a Glyos peg which may be removed and reassembled, allowing you to swap heads, arms, and legs with other figures. This is handy if you're looking to paint a figure or want to customize something, but most of you just want to know if the new head is any good. It is! If you aren't overwhelmed by your Armorvor collection, the Neo Granthans are great and this one's green skin gives it a wonderful retro look and feel. If you don't get this one - and he sold out in a couple of days - be sure to get the next one. As someone who has too many repaints of these guys, I'd suggest snagging a few and calling it a subset - but they're different enough that even if you're all Armorvored out it's still a fantastic change of pace which will last, I assume, for about 24 figures over the next 2 years.
