I got a single-carded He-Man in a case, but I didn't open it. I was dragging my feet in case the two-pack Skeletor & He-Man entered my household, and thanks to a 50% off two-packs sale it did. Thanks to tariffs and price increases, these guys shot way up in 2025 - they're good, but they're a little harder to buy at $7.50 per car when a plain, figure-free car is $1.25. Mattel has a lot more going on here, with more paint and more tooling, but functionally they're similar to the cheap cars.

I assume these guys will get rerun in 2026 for the movie. He-Man was sold previously on an individual card, and while Mattel has offered a fancy Land Shark, RacerVerse Skeletor is still exclusive to this set.

I'm banking on these guys showing up at thrift stores and Ross-like outlets, but I figures $7.50ish was good enough to finally get Skeletor. I really like the Land Shark vehicle and never had an original one. (I did pick up the Origins remake.) This tiny version has huge rear wheels and sizable front wheels tucked in the treads, but lacks an articulated jaw. The cannons don't move despite having what seems to be a joint there, and Skeletor pilots the thing like an Ed Roth hot rod meets Mario Kart design. It's great. I'm hoping that fans of the future will look back on lines like this and the 12-inch Hasbro/Mattel/Spin Master "Titan Hero Series" size figures as a thing worth revisiting, but who knows? Collectors on the interwebs seem increasingly intent on shaming people for buying toys rather than higher-end collectibles, which is unfortunate because this thing is pretty great. It can roll on track, and it has a nicely painted Skeletor driver.

The non-removable figure has his fists molded to the steering wheel, and the face is printed on the molded head. The comic-style art looks nice on the green and yellow face, with his bony face looking out from behind his trademark hood. The pink base has a nice heft to it, and there are armored plates and rivets on top of the shark. Oh, and there's a Hot Wheels flame on the license plate frame on the back. It's a nice touch, and a clever little collectible. It's not a terribly extensive line, but Mattel picked the right two guys to represent Eternia.

He-Man pilots a Wind Raider car with clear wheels. Many of the details of the toy are here, from the labels on the sides to the non-functioning anchor in the front. It doesn't have bigger wings for obvious reasons, but the colors match nicely and it's a clever design. I would also have accepted the Attack Trak. The clear wheels do stand out a little bit, but are still pretty slick. Sculpted detail is on par with the rest of the line, and the base is, again, hefty.

Mattel put a lot of thought into He-Man. The hair is swept by the wind - not too long, not too Filmationy, but also not so specific as to recall a specific incarnation of the character. His face has a determined grimace, and his eyes show the anime-level influence of a DeviantArt account. It's not bad, it's not traditional American art design, but you can see some influences creeping in. Like the original toy, his bracelets are unpainted. Like the Origins toy, both wrists have the same bracelet. I wouldn't have minded their being painted, but I do admit the yellow greeblies and red painted faux decals on the Wind Raider were the right thing to paint. It looks like a tiny version of the toy vehicle from the 1980s.

I feel like RacerVerse should have gotten a bigger push, with a more frequent cadence of releases, and probably a second assortment. Certain characters just fell flat on the pegs, slowing restock and probably scaring off fans. This sort of thing - "Mario Kart but other licenses" - should have been a much more popular collectible and toy as it's fun, functional, and generally charming. There are a lot of toys from this line that I don't have because I still can't find them, but hopefully that will change in the coming months. Failing that, hopefully kids dump their stashes at Goodwill. Get this set at a fair price if you can find it. I like it a lot, I love the detail, but $15 feels a little pricey for what it is. $10-$12, that's great. Under $10, don't miss it.
