I bought a lot of figures I was missing a couple of years ago and have been slowly opening them. I assume it's unlikely we'll get many more of these guys, so Bluestar Cyclops is something to be savored... and also taken for granted. There are just so many of them that it was hard to really take them all in, even though they're amazing little things on their own. The entire Bluestar series is 19 figures so far, most of which were at least $20 initially. It adds up, and may be the biggest collection of blue glow-in-the-dark action figures you can buy.
Cyclops and his comrades are all available in multiple versions. All of them are in white "Whitestar," green glow "Cosmic Radiation" flavors plus a host of others including a very nice fully-painted Infinity Edition. Cyclops was also sold in clear blue, clear black, and clear red versions plus a particularly striking Cyclops Zardurac [FOTD #1,708] edition way back in 2017. It's been a while.
The 3 3/4-inch scale alien is huge. With the helmet he stands about 5 1/4-inches tall, which really helps him stand out on a shelf of figures. He has a flight helmet, a two-part clear bubble helmet, two blasters, and a two-part armor piece. The figure had a lot of work put into him to look like a very good high-quality reimagining of a mid-century fanciful space alien. He's top-heavy, so be careful when posing him lest he topple your other figures. This very large figure can pop apart at every joint, and you can swap pieces with other action figures made with the Glyos system. I find it works best when you swap like for like, so mixing up Cyclops with other Cyclops bits will probably function best. The Four Horsemen built in articulation at pretty much every reasonable spot, adapting a prototype bendable wire-skeleton figure from the 1960s to the 21st century. The shoulders, neck, waist, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles all swivel. This turns out to be especially useful as the set includes both open hands and closed fists.
The figure is mostly smooth, without a lot of hair or scales or the kind of things we saw as the 20th century raged on. You do get sculpted accordion joints, though. Everything else seems pretty 1960s-appropriate within reason. Those old bendy prototypes were a little flatter by design, and this guy seems to be jumping out a little more with arms that swing forward and a generally more dynamic posture.
Other than the figure's top half possibly causing him to tip over, this is a great design. It's a little too big to fit in most toy vehicles, but you'll figure out something. Or, more accurately, he'll go on a shelf and never be played with. At the very least you should carry him outside with you and run back in the dark as quickly as possible, because the blue plastic glows for hours when properly charged up. It's really amazing, and the more blue (or green) glow plastic you have the brighter it all is.
The figure's handheld eye blasters fit in his fists or in his holsters. It's a tight fit thanks to the added paint, but it works.
If you pop off the armor, there's a little Easter Egg on his chest - a stylized relief of Pheyden. Pheyden, of course, is the mascot/core character of Onell Deisgn's Glyos product line.
If you can only get one Cyclops I'd steer you to one of the opaque painted ones. The Infinity Edition is stunning, the Zardurac one is also very nice. But this one isn't bad either given it has blue skin like the Infinity Edition and can serve as a pretty good night light. It might not be in your interests to pay the current asking price, but it's a pretty great indie figure that has a nice heft. I like it, and you'd be well-served to get a Cyclops in your collection.
