While it looks like this Ratchet Vehicle has some hooks for future builds - sockets for blasters, or maybe combining parts - it's pretty neat as it is. The windows on the sides and rear are, ruefully, undecorated - but if you use it as a scooter? You'll never notice.

This is an easy build. You've got a gray base plate with four white chassis pieces, two parts to make up the handlebars inside, and two wheel/axle combo pieces. It's simple, but fun. As a van it looks like various Micromasters or other toys, with some great front-facing printed detail. The windshield, light bar, wipers, headlights, bumper, and Autobot symbol are painted - and if the whole thing got this treatment? It would be an amazing chase piece. The other three parts are plain white, so you'll want to consider some customization if you need more color.

The wheels can roll, but the axle is pretty tight. It's not going to win any races. Sculpted detail is on par with most toys at this size, so I've got no complaints there. Door handles? License place locations? It's good, they did a nice job.

It's far more exciting as a vehicle for the other Defender figures. Pictured here with Perceptor, you can kind of get both of his hands on the handlebars. I couldn't get both completely on there, but I could kind of get both or really get one to hold on. The figure also makes the van a little back-heavy. But it's $3, and it's something you can play around with. I particularly liked the ability to plug a blaster in that silver tool.

This one is more of a toy than a collectible. If you like to play around with your figures, make getting this one a priority. It gives your figures something to do other than merely exist. If you work on dioramas or just need a thing to fidget with, I'd say this is a highlight of recent waves... just expect it to be a little persnickety when it comes to balancing with a figure on board.
