While not nearly the hassle to find as Turtles of Grayskull Mer-Man [FOTD #2,743], Moss Man packed a similar mutant punch. Mattel kept paint light, casting most of the figure in clear green with molded purple and white armor. Purple tentacles fit in his backpack, and he has plenty of gear - hence his being a deluxe. It's not as impressive as what we got with the other Walmart exclusives, but it's still pretty good.

Moss Man has a unique head sculpt (so far) featuring red eyes and white teeth. It would be neat to see this mold reused for an unflocked Moss Man, but that doesn't seem likely. He has pointed ears, shaggy plastic fur, and a pretty great facial expression. It's a little hard to see all of the detail since he's clear plastic, but Mattel put the work into it. They did a nice job.

The body is similar to Beast Man, with some twists. The feet use the "plant" mold, which rotates and isn't quite a rocker ankle like we got with some other figures. His hands are the bigger "mutant" clawed hands used with a lot of other Turtles of Grayskull, and almost the whole darn thing was more or less reused for Vecna [FOTD #3,008] in 2025. Mattel does not waste tooling.

In addition to his "beast" head, he's got a new plant head which is also unique to this release. The big opening "mouth" has a big clear green tongue in it, plus just a little bit of paint to help bring it to life. When closed, the unpainted red plastic has veins and spines and petals. When open, what you see looks more like the interior of a mouth, if it were green and glowing. It's really bright, and while the details aren't incredibly sharp they are quite good. That's not a knock on this particular figure, but a lot of modern toy lines aren't quite as defined as their 1980s equivalents. With the bright colors, I don't think it's a problem.

The purple armor fits nicely, giving the figure a mix of bone-like and plant-like material. The chest "bone" really sells it, and just above that are some spines that look similar to something Beast Man might wear. On the back are several tentacles, which are no doubt used for mobility or reenacting those Japanese cartoons your friend had and don't discuss in polite company. It's really a pretty amazing design, because you both get a bright green clear Beast Man as well as a horrible mutant plant monster bad guy. The looks are quite distinctive, and you'll probably get your money's worth out of this one.

While I have no proof, I sometimes feel these guys might still be in a warehouse waiting to show up at a Ross. But, maybe not. eBay prices aren't awful, but he does command a slight premium over the $25 at launch. If you can get it for somewhere in the $30s, you might want to give it a shot. It's not like anybody else is manufacturing newly designed plant monster figures in today's toy world, which is a huge loss to everybody. The bright colors and clear plastic makes it look almost like a designer figure, so if you're the kind of fan with a well-lit display case? This is an excellent design for you. Get it if the price is right.
