With historical context, Target-exclusive mash-up 2-Bopsteady went from an interesting concept to a figure that is so much more interesting in 2026. I don't felt he lingered quite as much as the other figures in the series, but you can get it pretty cheaply on eBay and it has a lot of parts. Also, we now know that Mattel got the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license from Playmates and seemingly others too - so this dry run showed their creativity within a very narrow band.

Finally, we got the Metal-Boto feet, but more importantly this figure shares its DNA with Two-Bad. Mattel made a cartoon version as an exclusive for San Diego Comic-Con, but strangely haven't put out a "toy" edition a few years later. But at least they didn't leave their two-headed engineering off to the side, and combined a kind of jazz with a kind of music that preceded reggae into a monster. I like it.

It's kind of a dumb idea, but these are two dumb guys. Shredder's hench-mutants get sewn together with mutagen and retain some of their personality and design from the cartoon era, but Mattel made a bunch of changes beyond skin color and head. You've got a warthog head and a rhino, but the colors and proportions are changed a bit. Rocksteady has spiky hair on his head, Bebop has a gold nose ring and a much bigger snout. The turtle shell shoulder armor from the cartoon remains, as do Bebop's bandoliers in modified form - but very little of Rocksteady's original costume remains. They have new pants and new boots, plus the requisite furry briefs. The arms seem to be taken from the Cartoon Collection, with a new vest that vaguely recalls what we saw on the cartoon. It's kind of amazing how the costume gives the impression of the 1980s takes on the characters, but the details are mostly changed or completely new. It's an interesting mix of 1980s punk as seen through the TV lens, 1980s action figures, and whatever fantasy stuff was left in the drawer.

Mashing up the goons of Shredder and Skeletor gave us some neat results here, and the figure stands reasonably well. I would have loved it if they gave us both characters that could be separated with unique torsos (like Two-Bad) but it was not meant to be.

You get two accessories here, and enough Metal-Boto gear to feel you got your $25 worth. Getting two characters in one body costs extra (thanks, paint) but the gear is no slouch. The gold saw sword looks vicious and seems in line with Playmates' 1980s figures. The ball and chain was a repurpose from Krang [FOTD #2,714], and it can be swapped in for either character's removable hand. You can also have them grip the chain, but that looks kind of weird. I would have preferred if they had some sort of hilt in which you could plug the flail, but it was not meant to be. It's a nicely dense little ball, and you could knock a figure over with it if you like. It's fun.

With the various price increases in toys these days, this line was a little expensive when it came out - so it feels about right today. Target's new exclusives are about $20, and you don't get build-a-figures. You might get a second head, though, and the cards were dropped. If you collect this line, I'd consider this figure a must-buy due to its novelty and unique "Thing with Two Heads" body. I'd go as far as to say this is one of the most fun figures from the crossover, and there were a lot of really excellent ideas - most of which were from the Mirage Studios' stable.

As I write this, I don't think anyone knows what Mattel is doing for their own full green teen line in 2027. It's interesting to think they might go this route, or perhaps mimic Mattel's pretty grand $10-$12 house style of action figure. I'll miss Playmates' involvement and creativity with all their crossovers and new characters, but I'm hopeful the new crew will bring something fun to the table beyond just legacy characters.
