Finding out that Japan was getting Big Convoy - Optimus Primal, but a Mammoth - was one of the big driving forces for bringing me back to Transformers in the 1990s. There have been a few versions, variants, and remakes, the newest of which is this 2 1/4/-inch non-transforming kit for three bucks. It doesn't bring the gimmicks of the original toy, nor does it bring the articulation of this year's new one. But it is a dirt cheap, nicely-painted, Battle Beasts-sized robot with a specific blaster and two chase versions.

While this little guy has a lot of parts, like his trunk blaster or tusks, I found him much easier to assemble thanks to distinctive parts. The right arm is red, and the left arm is gray. While the shins are the same, the calf region is different for each leg. Everything else sorts itself in place pretty easily, plus you can place the blaster in the fist or mount it on the back - just like the original toy. Every joint moves, so you can point the tusks on the back or tilt the ankles to your liking. After seven series of the little guys, it's just amazing to me that a company is making, in 2026, a $3 action figure that can compete on articulation with most of the big players in the modern collector space. Especially because my childhood Sledgehammer Elephant [FOTD #451] had joints at the shoulders and nothing else. And that was a fun toy, at a price that would be much higher than this one when adjusted for inflation.

Like most kit toys, all of the moving parts just plain work. They have to, otherwise the figure couldn't be assembled.

Deco is much simpler than the various toys, but not by much. Comparing him to Age of the Primes Big Convoy [FOTD #2,972], I don't feel particularly slighted. The chest has a printed pattern with a tiny Maximal symbol, the abs, the chest window, and many of the gold highlights. You even get the shin pistons, but you don't get the gold, red, and/or white ornamentation on the upper or lower arms. I don't miss it, if anything it helps the figure look more cartoony. The head retains the yellow animation eyes, paints the horns, decorates the crest, and leaves the feet unpainted. It looks like a toy, which is handy since it is priced like one.

His big accessory is his blaster, which has the elements of the cannon and the trunk on it - just like the original toy. It's molded in brown, so you don't get the black or white elements. Given the price point, I don't think that's an unfair trade. It makes it feel like a distinctive toy, and as I write this I'm running back to my Battle Beasts to put him in a chariot and then the big bases. And he feels right at home there.

For 1980s kids with a Battle Beasts collection, I'd recommend you drop the $36 on the case and then go buy any other wave with Beast Wars guys in the series. They're all wonderful, and fit in your Shocking Shark and Deer Stalker. It's a pity Blokees has no vehicles or playsets, but hey - that's what your old toys are for, right? Big Convoy has great colors, perfect articulation, and a sculpt that straddles the line of "cute" and "awesome." That's a good place to be for a collectible figure, so go buy this case. The going rate on eBay for the single, identified figure is usually at or above $15, so $36 for a dozen figures is a much better buy.
