If you're going to do some G1 robots, you're going to do Prowl. Blokees' smaller Galaxy Defender line wisely tossed him in the first series. This makes it easy to use parts for eventual repaints, and makes the fans who want one of the top 1984 characters a little happier.
Technically a model kit, this dirt-cheap figure once again proves that you can make a good plastic figure at a good price. Similar in size to the original Battle Beasts, the Blokees people gave us a figure with some shared parts and a lot of new pieces. Prowl has a distinctive car door backpack and a hood chest. There is a blue insert for his head which gives him molded blue eyes. His shins, chest, and helmet have limited paint and everything looks pretty sharp. It's a shame these aren't widely available in American toy aisles, because I think this form factor could get a lot of kids on board with figure collecting/acquiring.
Each joint is a ball joint, granting the figure best-in-scale stability and range of motion. Kre-o was no slouch, Mega Construx had some really great stuff, but this is super cheap with slightly better ranges of motion. Obviously it's a little deformed, but that's the charm. If you ever looked at old Tomy wind-ups you've probably seen some of their amazing little Zoids SD dinosaurs, and this is kind of like that. Only it's not a dinosaur, nor does it wind up.
Since Prowl doesn't transform and lacks any kind of playset, it's probably more of a collectible than a toy. It's a great fidget toy for desks, and these are probably one of the better ways to collect Transformers if you're new to the game. They're cheap, you can get a lot of characters, and if they make 400 of them you can probably fit them in a few shoeboxes. If you're focusing specifically on 1984 guys, you're probably going to like this one. If you haven't bought any yet, I'd recommend getting a case. Why? $36 gets you 12 figures. It's decent entertainment, although I admit I am probably dragging out the unboxing process a little much. I got three cases of these things to finish opening.
