At first blush it's not obvious that this figure was Teela from Turtles of Grayskull does a good job bringing back classic characters in sensible ways, but this one goes one step beyond and remixes Teela - one of countless token redheaded women from 1980s make action toy kidvid - in a pretty exciting way. If you ask people what Teela's deal is, it probably has something to do with a onesie, no pants, red hair, and a tiara. It's not a bad look, but this toy said "let's do something new" and applied new armer, fancy bladed vambraces, a helmet, and some fur around the neck. She has a shell she can wear on her back or carry as a shield.
Some figures got more new parts, but Teela got a new head and lots of accessories. The shell is similar to Man-at-Arms, the sword is the same as Raphael's, and the figure's body and limbs are more or less the same as we've been getting. Thanks to those armor elements and a new head with non-removable helmet, she looks like a whole new toy with the same good articulation and a new skirt piece. The extra chains look really nice, and the colors are vibrant. Everything hangs together nicely, with metallic fur added to the trim of her boots.
Her hair is mostly hidden, but there's a ponytail sticking out the back of the gold and green turtle shell helmet. The helmet is so thick it should protect her from anything, and the armor's shoulder pads are huge - as is the furry mini cape hanging over her shoulders. It's worth noting that the cape does block the holes in the armor a bit, meaning you may struggle to properly cram the shield in there.
The figure deviates from previous toys to an extent that makes her worthwhile. Casey Jones, Man-at-Arms, even mutated Ram-Man all fundamentally look like their classic figures. By giving her an entirely new suite of accessories and a new color scheme, she gets to stand out on a shelf as something fundamentally new. She's also been standing without much of a fight, which I really appreciate in my toys.
This is a fresh take on a classic character, giving her new colors and a different silhouette. You should get it, even if her accessories are technically not new at this point. Mattel did a good job coming up with a new way to make her distinctive and stand out from April, which is no small feat when you're repurposing parts from four years ago. If you see her at a fair price, get one.
