Inflation is real! This Glow-in-the-Dark Swamp Thing came in a new series of mystery bagged figures curiously named "series 1" despite there being many other series at $4.99 each. When this mold first came out for about $8 in a 2-pack with Batman, and I could not say no to the Batman & Swamp Thing [FOTD #2,100] set on clearance a few years ago, you know there's a bit of an uptick - the previous mystery DC bags were around $4. It's not terrible, but it's notable.

This figure is the thing every dork asks for the second a new Swamp Thing toy gets made. "Will they do a Bio-Glow Swamp Thing?" It took six years, and we also got one with Christmas lights first, but now it exists! It's also stunningly bright on camera and one of the very best glow figures I own to the naked eye. I'm not sure why it seems so much brighter than other toys on camera, but it is, even if it seems only barely brighter in person.

His brown staff accessory is really hard to wedge in his hand, and if it looks familiar you probably have one from a previous release of Poison Ivy or perhaps another figure I am unaware of - they share a lot of this stuff around.

Articulation is the same as it has been for years - Swamp Thing is unique in that his head can't turn, but the legs swing forward and you can rotate the wrists. The shoulders rotate and can move outward too, exactly like the last version of this figure. The only difference I could find in the molding of the toy was on his foot - the "MADE IN CHINA" is now printed on, rather than being part of the sculpt in a previous release.

I haven't bought as much Imaginext stuff lately, as I mostly only tend to buy things on extreme clearance at Tuesday Morning (RIP) or creatures, and sometimes allusions to previous toy lines. We're getting a lot less of that lately, and while I was initially over the moon excited for Star Wars, die-cast metal figures in $150 playsets just isn't going to work for me. But a $5 Swamp Thing? Any of us can afford that, and while I now doubt we will ever see Mattel's promises of Masters of the Universe Imaginext materialize on US shores at least we can get this old-school toy reference in stores right now. The Bane figure in this series is also potentially worth a look, as he has a glowing vest. And what the heck else are you going to buy that's five bucks in 2024?
