Easier to find than her non-evil green counterpart, Dark Phoenix was hanging out a bit at the grocery stores and elsewhere last year. It's a pretty great figure for the asking price, making good use of the available molds while also giving you something a little too good for a Bronze Age comics-contemporary action figure. She uses the same lady body we always get in this line, but it's also sensible here. Also this figure has no gold paint, so this is the one that's probably going to hold up better to age if you're debating regular vs. Dark flavors of Phoenix.

Sadly she doesn't have any accessories, but as a godlike entity in space she did just fine without them. The belt/sash is back, this time in yellow, and it hangs just fine off her waist. It has a little stretch to it, but I don't know if it would survive repeated stretchings and removals - so I'll just leave it there. It's a little loose, but that's OK because you can move it around for when she needs to sit in a vehicle. Her hair is a separately molded piece, so it looks good - but is huge compared to what was normal in the 1980s. The wig looks fine by modern standards.
Her wrists rotate, but her boots don't. She has no problems standing and honestly looks more like a retro figure thanks to that bright yellow coloring. The yellow Phoenix symbol on her chest is bigger and different than the one from her green costume, plus she has bright yellow energy-filled eyes that do wonder to change her personality without requiring an alternate head sculpt. Hasbro got this one right.
As with the others, she plays pretty closely to an idealized version of a retro action figure with a decent sculpt, a good range of movement, and a head that's just a little too good for old standards. This is the kind of thing younger collectors will get who want something in the style of the genuine vintage articles, but don't actually want something from the 20th century. And that's OK - for about $10, she's a good figure on a wonderful cardback with flames at the bottom of it. The designers didn't phone it in on this one, and for as long as you can get her near retail price I'd recommend her highly. Maybe even for a little above - what can I say, I'm a sucker for brightly colored figures.
