New Yo Gabba Gabba CD has Aquabats, Devo, GoGo13, Weird Al Yankovic

MusicYo Gabba GabbaWhile "That's What I Call Music" still exists for teens and tweens to do whatever they do with, the Yo Gabba Gabba people seem intent on forcing interesting stuff on kids. For example: Filter Magazine has news of Yo Gabba Gabba! Music is Awesome! Volume 3, which hit stores yesterday. Some of the stuff is obviously for the little kids, but it's an interesting concept-- some of these bands are pretty kid- or adolescent-friendly, but the notion of handing Devo to the under-10 set could go either way. "Watch Us Work It" is included, sadly, "Don't Shoot I Am A Man" is not.

Particularly exiting is a track from GoGo13, who put on fantastic shows and have pretty much no recordings available to the public-- and that includes the alternative music channels. (Yes I mean piracy.)

Europe Exclusive St. Nick, Black Pete Playmobil 4893 Set

PlaymobilBlack Pete is BlackAn eBay seller has an unusual (and most likely exclusive to Europe) 4893 St. Nicholas with Black Pete Set. Black Pete (and variations on him) exist in European Christmas celebrations as sort of a dark counterpart to St. Nick-- Nick brings presents, Pete brings the pain.

German Playmobil 5203 Lovely Assistant and Magician

PlaymobilMagicIt looks like Germany has a new Playmobil set with a magician's assistant which is mostly existing bits in a new set-- the Magician and one of the tricks was previously sold as a special, but I believe the female assistant to be new or at least sufficiently different.

Also new: 5201 Princess Set and 5202 Circus Set, which seems to be a lot of old pieces in a new box. 5201 and 5202 seem to be the best of 'em.

New He-Man Q&A Round-Up

Masters of the UniverseNew QuestionsI'm not sure how but the Mattel Q&A on Masters of the Universe Classics has been posted and despite being a tiny line, is routinely more informative or at least exciting than some other lines which shall remain nameless since I'm a nice guy.

There aren't a lot of specific pieces of new data, but it's an interesting read at He-Man.org as they compiled the questions and answers from the various fan sites.

New G.I. Joe Vehicles Hitting

G.I. JoeVehiclesThe new G.I. Joe vehicles are starting to hit stores now-- of all places, I was surprised to find them at Wal-Marts over the past week. The Vamp MK II comes with a Steel Brigade Delta driver, while the Black Dragon VTOL has a rather dull Cobra Air Trooper.

Honestly, both drivers are kinda boring.

New iPad Dock Looks Like Space Invaders Arcade Cabinet

MoviesVideo GamesIf you like old games and Apple products, this INVADERCADE from Japan is the thing to see. The store NCS has it for about $260 which ain't cheap, but it's neat. A real full-size Space Invaders coin-op machine sells for a little more than that, so if you just want a really cool home decoration you might want to track down the genuine article.

Hasbro's First NYCC Exclusive Revealed

TransformersGunDespite being in under 3 weeks, most major toy companies have not given any specific information as to what-- if anything-- they're selling at New York Comic Con. Even Hasbro, who starts the process for San Diego Comic-Con (July) as early as Toy Fair (February) has only just revealed their first item: a Nerf N-Strike Barricade RV-10 Special Edition Transformers Bumblebee Blaster which is similar to an Optimus Prime one for SDCC.

It's entirely possible that by not announcing it at the last big media event (SDCC) and there no longer being a large toy press publication like ToyFare for which to hold back an announcement, Hasbro no longer cares about getting information out there early and will now be trying to surprise us more. And by "surprise us" I mean "hold stuff back until a CNN or an MTV post an exclusive announcement."

2012 Playmobil Toys Revealed... For Germany

PlaymobilElvisIt looks like the 2012 German catalog is making the rounds on Playmofriends with new sets on the first two pages of the thread. It seems the economy and the desire for higher price point products has eliminated the classic Specials in favor of Specials Plus, which have more accessories and presumably a higher price. The bulk of them are excellent-- a pizza cook, a new pirate, even what appears to be an olde tyme stewardess!

New themes seem to be building on existing tooling with Horse Stables, Police, and a new round of Dinosaurs. The Dinosaur Adventure is largely existing parts-- the T-Rex, Brachiosaurus, Triceratops, and others were put out a few years ago, but now they have new paint, different figures, and different landscaping. New dinosaurs include what appears to be a relative of the Ankylosaurus called the Saichania, the close-enough Dimetrodon, the Stegosaurus, and lots of smaller creatures and babies. You'll note a tiny T-Rex and a young Brachiosaurus added to the mix.

An Olympics theme has been revealed with gymnasts, fencers, shot putters, and numerous other athletes. The bulk of these toys won't hit the USA until 2013, but it would be surprising to see them wait until the Olympics are over.

Most likely showing up in 2012 are new Fi?ures to follow the ones which just hit. This batch is much more exciting and diverse, and to follow Zorro is the equally copyright-questionable Elvis. I mean, look at it-- it's Elvis. A new Mariachi, basketball player, Asian warrior of some description, and sci-fi characters are included in the boys line. The girls includes a dead-ringer for Lara Croft as well as She-Vampires which I assume are here to fight Elvis. A Geisha/Kabuki/whatever (I'm ignorant) is also included, the ethnicities of the 2012 line seems to be significantly more non-white than before. Which is great-- but still, only one black guy? And no black women? You know what I'm expecting for 2013, then.

All in all, this sneak peek into the future-- 2013 for the USA-- is fascinating... and way, way more interesting than what came out in the states in 2012.
