Star Wars Q&A, Figure of the Day Updated at Galactic Hunter

Q&A by Adam PawlusGalactic Hunter Star Wars NewsGalactic Hunter has posted a new Q&A column this week! Be sure to click through and read up on the latest!

Be sure to send in your questions for next week's thrilling update-- remember, it's no good without your participation, and even then, it still might suck.

Storm CommandoFigure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

Today we look at the Storm Commando figure which was surprisingly not just a repaint-- he got new legs and a new head, for starters. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Figure of the DayHasbro Transformers Reveal the Shield Special Ops JazzSomething new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting non-Star Wars Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? So far, only Star Wars!

One of the more recent releases we just freaking love is Hasbro Transformers Reveal the Shield Special Ops Jazz, the first mass-market new mold version of the character in the USA that isn't so small it could fit into your mouth. So read on, read our Star Wars one below, and come back soon for more!

New Transformers (Compatible) Toys Coming

TransformersPrepare For DevastationA new gallery at ACToys.net shows off a ton of "compatible" toys like this large-size attempt at a Devastator-style toy that is not licensed by nor endorsed by Hasbro or Takara. New Headmaster- and Targetmaster-style companion toys are shown as well, plus a super-deformed Optimus Prime-style toy. I don't have the ins and outs on how close you can get to a design before being hit with an infringement lawsuit, but this seems to be getting darned close.

Each piece of the construction vehicle robot is said to be sized larger than a deluxe toy, but smaller than a voyager toy. Costs were not divulged, but history pegs these big toys at $80ish a pop-- so the whole of Devastator's unlicensed brother could cost you as much as $500 after shipping and such. Start saving kids, the combined mode is enormous.

TFSource put up images of the unofficial and frankly not too sensical Targetroids in Hot Flame vs. Screamer and Opticmax vs. Megazoom sets. Each pair of 2 guns is $36... which is a lot. If you just want a gun you can grab Cyclonus vs. Rodimus for $20 and throw away the other toys.

Another posting at ACToys.net shows new fake Insecticon toys but you might want to see TFW2005's English-language story explaining some additional details.

Finally, Robot Kingdom has mock-up images of the Perfect Effect Fake Reflector toy which looks a lot like the cartoon colors.

G.I. Joe Convention Set, Boxed HISS Scout

G.I. JoeCapt. ClaymoreCaptain Claymore rounds out the G.I. Joe Convention 2011 Mission Brazil Boxed Set which, it turns out, is freaking amazing! What a wonderful mix, combining "Python Patrol" Cobra figures with Mission Brazil-inspired figures including a couple of Brazil-exclusive toys. Inspired.

Just as exciting, Hisstank.com has managed to obtain images of the boxed Pursuit of Cobra wave 3 HISS Attack Scout vehicle with all-black driver! WIth no pre-orders in sight and lackluster sales of the vehicles thus far, its exact release date and fate aren't exactly known yet. There's no reason to assume it won't come out but as Mr. Doom and gloom, I suggest you be wary. But wait, there's more!

Package Mock-Ups for Jurassic Joe

Jurassic ParkCanceledWhile Hasbro's on-the-record answer for these sets is "canceled," we're happy to see more Jurassic Park/G.I. Joe prototype hybrids continue to surface. These packaged InGen AWE Striker samples include figures, a vehicle, and some mini dinosaurs! I assume the glue is mixed with my tears, as the brand's last go-round wasn't exactly a hit.

Toys "R" Us stores continue to mark down the last Hasbro line, with carded figures down to about three bucks. I'd suggest checking your local stores for a bargain if you're so inclined.

Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

Which is, for the record, totally worth it. So read on, read our Star Wars one below, and come back soon for more!

Rare Pulsars MP3s (for fans of Trumfio)

MusicPulsarsIf you bargain bin-dived in the early 2000s, you no doubt saw many, many copies of CDs and singles from The Pulsars. The band was pretty great but didn't catch on, so I lucked into some CDs for $0.10 each. (Not a typo.) If you liked them too, you should check out this great rare track MP3 page on Fortune City that time forgot which is loaded with iffy-quality rips of tracks that didn't see wide release. If you want something good you'll still need to shell out, but if all you have are their more common releases, well, it's nice to see someone posted something.

Just as interesting, their news page has information of a follow-up full-length release that never made it out which was written about the time of the recording. A posting from September 15, 2000 has the dirt on a 13-track album that cost a ton of money and never saw any form of release. How depressing. Certainly someone who owns this would just throw it on iTunes to make something rather than nothing?

(For the record, none of the Pulsars' music is on iTunes or, seemingly, in print in any form. However you can get their debut album and the "Owed to a Devil" EP on eBay quite cheaply-- worth the couple of bucks if you like songs about old computers and Wisconsin.)

Back to the Future Set Photography

MoviesHill Valley, 1955A friend of mine pointed me out to this security guard's photo gallery of the 1955 and 1985 sets from Back to the Future, which both really give you a nice look at some of the parts of Hill Valley that you saw, just not very well. You can even see where they matted out the Hollywood Hills! The set was posted in 2007, so it may be old news-- unless you missed it.

Nintendo Wii Downloads This Week

WiiGhost ManiaThis week's WiiWare offerings are Ghost Mania and Sneezies. Each is $5, so if you've got $5 to burn, hey. Ghost Mania (pictured) is a puzzler of some sort, so it's probably worth giving a spin.

The Virtual Console has nothing, because someone was probably not doing their job well.

NintendoSuper Mario Bros. 3DI was turned on to this Gallery of 3D voxel-based NES games, which includes Super Mario Bros. 3, the Legend of Zelda, and many others. G.I. Joe Shadow Tracker Unmasked

G.I. JoeShadow TrackerIf you were curious what was under Pursuit of Cobra Shadow Tracker's mask, General's Joes has the picture and full details. While it looks cool under the mask, you might not want to pry it off-- and here's why:

"Many folks have been wondering exactly what Shadow Tracker looks like underneath that mask, but only Twink Viper has actually buckled down and yanked it off. Unfortunately he ended up ruining the figure in the process, but check out the fruits of his labor below:"

Generations Transformers getting Deluxe Warpath, Arcee?

TransformersIt's a custom, don't get excitedA new list of Transformers names with UPCs is making the rounds and based on some information, it may well be legit! The new toys listed include Arcee and Warpath, which would probably mean that the line is going to go on a little longer than some of us had expected. No pictures or dates are available, but with Toy Fair coming up next month I expect to see and hear some sort of confirmation or denial.

For those keeping track, the last "classic" Warpath toy was a tiny (and cool) Universe figure in early 2009. It was tough to get. Arcee has yet to get a G1-themed release.

Also notable: HK-TF has a gallery of Reveal the Shield Optimus Prime complete with packaging.

iGear's Kup upgrade heads are up for pre-order for the lower-than-expected price of $12 for the pair. One has a "cy-gar," one does not.

New Transformers-Compatible PE-11 Faux Reflector Images

TransformersLet's SeeA new series of images of the upcoming Perfect Effect Scouting Force X PE-11 Set, which is essentially three small robots which combine into a camera. So if you want a camera, this is the one for you.

Awesome Painting of Turd Ferguson, More at Gallery 1988

ArtTurd FergusonIf you love comedy, you might remember the great Norm McDonald's masterful use of a moustache on SNL. Artist Jeff Ramierez has a painting of Norm McDonald as Burt Reynolds as Turd Ferguson from the Celebrity Jeopardy sketches, and boy, is it great. It's amazing and part of over 90 more images at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles as part of "Is This Thing On," which focuses on comedians. Having been to the gallery for another show, I can say it's generally worth the trip!

Matty Adds Captchas

Masters of the UniverseFinal Solution?I was surprised to see that the solution to Matty's ordering woes wasn't upgrading its servers or implementing pre-orders, but rather CAPTCHAs to slow down bots or automated users, which may or may not solve the problem. It's weird to be in a position to armchair-quarterback B2B software solutions but... it's certainly an unusual and creative one for a retail store whose chief problem seems to be forecasting supply as of late.

Here's hoping it works.

Man or Astro-Man on PBS, Free Live Show Download

MusicMan or Astro-ManIf you missed the episode of PBS' We Have Signal with Man or Astro-Man last week, Vimeo has the full 28 minutes online for you to watch. If the band isn't coming to your town soon, this is a decent (if short) free substitute. The setlist is pretty much purely pre-EEVIAC which means you're going to get a great selection of Star Crunch-era music.

Also notable, Southern Shelter has two complete concerts from 2010! The November one has a lot of great banter, and it's a free, clear-sounding download. I suggest you get both, but the November 2010 40-Watt show for sure. (Henry was there.)

I am not aware of any US release for this one, so you might need to import it. Also, a new album called Oh! No! It's Heavy Polysick!!! is coming in March and no US release has surfaced yet. Track titles include "Bleeping Hedgehog" and I want to hear it.

Figure of the DaySucklord Glyos-Compatible Sucklord Grey Helmet HeadSomething new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting non-Star Wars Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!

Last year at Comic-Con I picked up an accessory that's just big goofy fun. This Sucklord Glyos-Compatible Sucklord Grey Helmet Head looks vaguely like Boba Fett, but it's really the alter-ego of a toy designer calling himself the Sucklord-- and it fits on the bodies of other figures. Well, some figures. So read on, read our Star Wars one below, and come back soon for more!

Transformers Awesome Hubcap Repaint; Spastic Gets Renamed

TransformersDownshiftA Yahoo Japan auction has surfaced showing two new packaged Scout toys, specifically Demolition Rumble (who is blue) and Downshift, a redeco of last year's great Hubcap toy. While neither have surfaced as pre-orders yet, it's assumed the "official word" of these toys will be in New York at Toy Fair about a month from there. I'll be there so I too can say "That's nice, what else ya got?"

Not Spastic

Also notable, a packaged sample of "Spastic" showed up called "Over-Run." If you look closely, the new nameplate is clearly a sticker. It's on Taobao if you want to see it, and as you all know by now Spastic's name is a slur in the UK, which, by an astonishing coincidence, is a market where this toy will not be sold.

G.I. Joe Cycle Armor with Ashiko Packaged Sample Surfaces

G.I. JoeCycle ArmorA gallery and review on HISSTank.com shows the full packaged and unpackaged gamut of fun you currently aren't able to have with the Cycle Armor, a vehicle whose unavailbility as a pre-order has lead to rampant speculation that it will not be released in a timely manner or perhaps at all. Until Hasbro says otherwise, this thing is still expected to be coming, although I'm starting to wonder which outlets will get a chance to sell it given some stores phased out the SKU in the post-Christmas clearances.

Figure of the DayHasbro Transformers Hunt for the Decepticons SandstormSomething new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting non-Star Wars Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? So far, only Star Wars!

One of the more recent releases we just freaking love is Hasbro Transformers Hunt for the Decepticons Sandstorm, a pretty good reuse of a pretty tough-to-find mold. It seemed like a weird decision to make a triple-changer targetmaster toy out of a repaint of a pacifist minibot, but hey, it's a nice toy. I appreciate the Autobot symbol being red and not silver. So read on, read our Star Wars one below, and come back soon for more!

Sunbow's Own Hector Ramierez: The Custom Figure

HasbroHectorWhile we don't usually showcase customs here much, I couldn't help linking to this custom Hector Ramierez figure on HISSTank.com because it gives me an excuse to show you this character which appeared on numerous Sunbow-produced Hasbro cartoons in the 1980s-- specifically G.I. Joe and The Transformers.

He also appeared on Jem and The Inhumanoids, and there's more about him on the TFWiki.

New Transformers-Compatible RTS G2 Prime Trailer, Japan United Pics

TransformersPreviewBecause there's an unwritten mandate that all Optimus Prime toys not from the movies simply must have a trailer, this HK-TF forum posting shows the first glimpse at a new upgrade kit. I have read either translations or speculation-- I can't tell-- that the toy will have a new head and a trailer which also can be add-on armor for the figure, which, I should note, is shipping from Hasbro as you read this. (It's only showing up to online accounts and smaller stores so far.)

Also notable: four new Amazon Japan listings for Transformers United. Perceptor has some minor color changes and a fully visible Autobot symbol, Kup is metallic, Wreck-Gar has a silver face and some new colors on his person, and Blurr is so blue it's sick. All the little red details are gone, he's just blue. My advice: just get the American Blurr now, it's cheaper and looks better.

Transformers US Alternate Wreck-Gar Head Revealed

TransformersJunkyardA scan of Wreck-Gar's instructions at TFW2005 shows his new head, or rather, a possible head of a hypothetical, unannounced redeco toy. While based on a generic Junkion model, the head's only identifying name was in a recent book of art from all things Generation One-- and his name could be Junkyard.

Again, these alternate heads may not ever actually see the light of day, but in case they do, at least you'll remember that you saw them a few months/years before they hit stores/conventions.

Slightly Different RTS Optimus Prime Head, Bodyblock Revealed

TransformersMotormaster... or bad line artYour friend and mine at David Willis got the new RTS Optimus Prime toy and scanned the instructions which show what may be an alternate head for the just-released (but not at retail brick-and-mortar stores) toy. Speculation says "Menasor" or "Motormaster," but for all I know it's just sloppy line art-- we'll probably see more at Toy Fair next month.

Also exciting: a thread at ACToys.net showcases Bodyblock, a repaint of 2010's Breacher. The bio was not visible at press time, but I'd guess it's an Autobot since everything is these days. The thread also shows new shots of Demolition Rumble and the just-released Lugnut.

I downloaded it and am in the midst of getting through it, but some of my favorite comics are on there so it's well worth mentioning that you can hear more of the great Doug Benson, Marc Maron, Chelsea Petetti, Brendan Walsh, and Moshe Kasher. If there's anyone else on there, well, I haven't finished it yet... it's fun stuff. I don't need to write a review here, it's worth your $2 for uninterrupted Interruption.

Hasbro has not confirmed (nor denied) the existence of this new Warpath, but it's worth noting that this would be the second figure of the character since 2009. (The previous release was a delightful little Legends-class toy.)

Also exciting: Botcon 2011 details are leaking to Twitter from the official source-- nothing concrete, but it looks like it may span multiple existing storylines and will undoubtedly feature elements of Animated and quite possibly the rarely seen 3D comic book series. Some choice quotes:

BotCon 2011 will feature Transformers Animated...

"@DerrickJWyatt was instrumental in BotCon 2011 Convention set. Every Animated fan will want this set! More details to come at www.botcon.com"

G1? AEC? Animated? BW? What could it be? All of this contemplating may make you feel like you got hit by a Delirious Fire Attack!

In the past 24 hours, I've seen the new Deluxe toys at Targets. Scourge and Kup as well as Bumblebee, Wreck-Gar, Optimus Prime, and Perceptor are all making the rounds. Good hunting!

Xbox Live ArcadeBreachXbox 360 owners, it's time to look into Breach, a $15/1,200 points action game. They say:

"Breach is a first-person military shooter that unleashes enough destruction to change the very nature of multiplayer combat. Crash ceilings on opponents. Create murder holes. Disintegrate cover. Punch holes through floors. Blow out walls. Collapse entire buildings. And, so much more."

More? That's too much.

Sony Confuses Fans with New PSP called NGP

PSPNGPIn their infinite wisdom, Sony revealed its new portable, and it looks a lot like the old one. Dubbed the "NGP" (Neo Geo Pocket?) the system has enhanced color depth and improved resolution, plus a touch screen. It includes a new proprietary Flash media, so you should be able to buy games at retail... but don't expect to bring your old physical PSP games to the new unit.

Rather than run down everything, just go to Joystiq's coverage of the new portable, and I'll be back with more if any good games get mentioned. Based on the PSP's software library, it might be a while.

Rarely Seen 16bit Remake of the Legend of Zelda Video

NintendoZeldaFans of old Nintendo games remember that Nintendo and its licensees toyed with 16-bit remakes of NES games, some of which made it out in Japan. Take this video of Satellaview Zelda, a downloadable title (before that kind of thing was in vogue) that took the original game and added in new sound effects with your choice of new playable characters. The video shows the player getting through the first dungeon, which has a completely different form than the original game or its second quest. Neat!

Warpath Revealed, New TFClub Images, More

TransformersZowieThe busy Snakas got new images of an unpainted Warpath prototype from the Japanese patent office. You may recall a few Classics toys, specifically Astrotrain, were debuted this way so it's possible there are more toys just waiting to be found.

Over at TFW2005.com are images of TFClub's Reflector and Long Haul-style toys showing off new modes and new mechanisms. While expensive and unlicensed, it's certainly worth a look.

Speaking of unlicensed bits and pieces, here's that new Cliffjumper upgrade set you've been dying to see. It has a head and two guns, with no price or release date yet.

Masterpiece Rodimus came out in Japan and will cost you about $200. Before you buy it, check out these three galleries for tons of images showing off the various modes and features. While not as big as Masterpiece Optimus Prime, it's an extensive toy.

For those of you in the market for the new Wreck-Gar toy, it turns out the darned thing is pretty fragile. I can confirm that the arms do have stress marks prior to opening the packaging from my own sample, and you do want to be very careful with this one. Heck, the whole wave is very touchy-- if you're planning on buying Laser Rod Optimus Prime or Perceptor, don't get them for your kids.
