Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA July 21-24, 2011

Earthworm Jim is back! It's almost unfair to start off with that, but it's all very exciting to see the classic game (and cartoon) character return to the world of toys. An action figure and plush were on display, with no real release date yet. Here's hoping they do a jumbo one like their massive Lion-O figure, which it turns out will be joined by an equally massive but even more impressive Mumm-Ra in the coming year.

Mez-Itz expands with more mini-vehicles, including a Batwing, plus more DC Comics characters. The booth sold an exclusive Green Lantern set with Sinestro, as well as a jumbo very, very expensive Batman figure. It's very impressive, and if you haven't had the pleasure of actually futzing with these I suggest you do so. The larger figures are similar to Mighty Muggs but with a slightly better range of articulation.

The ongoing and hugely popular Living Dead Dolls continues with a line based on zombie-themed dolls plus another updating the designs of their very first series. Numerous plush toys are also being brought in to join them, including licensed characters from Saw and Child's Play. Not necessarily new, but worthy of mention, are the newly-repackaged and nifty South Park figures. The line look is great-- they're definitely nailing a look that says "we're not selling these to kids" despite having them on the pegs at the Toys R Us. I'll be reviewing their jumbo Lion-O figure in the very near future.
