Beast Saga Action Figures
Item No.: n/a Manufacturer:Takara-Tomy Includes:Die, flyer Action Feature:Dice launch out of stomach Retail:200 yen (or about $2.30) Availability: December 2012 Other: Capsule Resculpt of Janjan the Panda
I dig pandas and a twist of fate brought me Janjan as a capsule figure before his standard release. The capsule figure has no fist holes and no articulation, and is a smidgen smaller. The strange thing is that the capsule panda is pretty good, and it has a few points of deco I like better than the standard release. For starters, his eyes look less drugged-out with smaller black dots. Also, the arms have no black paint on the armor - the 3-pack panda has black on part of the armor, making it look like it's his fur or skin. Of course, the capsule toy lacks painted fists and that's a real bummer.
The capsule toys come to you in pieces. The figure's legs are one big piece, and the arms plug into the sides. The dice launcher is pre-embedded in the body and the die must be loaded. It's the same basic size and shape as the regular die and launcher, although it's a tad stiffer to push the plunger and launch the thing out.
For customizers or people just wanting a cool figure for their desk, this one is a perfectly nice 2.6-inch figure. Don't get me wrong, I would prefer moving arms and furry black fists, but as a cool little guy who just stands around he's awesome. Also the initial price in Japan was a bargain, $2.30 or so is a killer deal for a figure this nice at this size - I don't think there's a US equivalent in today's market. He doesn't do a lot, but he doesn't have to. He just needs to be cool, and he is.
