LEGO's decision to release trading figure LEGO toys was, in a word, genius. It's bad for collectors, but the product like this Super Wrestler show that LEGO can eventually get behind a trend, even if it's 10 years late. The luchadore makes good use of existing LEGO parts, repainting the standard Minifigure body and redecorating the cape to give you this one-of-a-kind wrestler toy. There are no known plans for others for him to fight, although we suppose if you get enough of him you could put together a pretty good approximation of the band "The Coyote Men."*
What we Americans refer to as Mexican Wrestling has yet to catch on stateside, but there's no denying it makes for some cool figures. Super Wrestler has a painted face and a painted front of his torso, with some decoration on his pants to boot. Heck, those are some huge pecs too. The back of the figure is unpainted, a striking yellow, rather than continuing the shirt all the way around. (Some LEGO figures do have their backs painted these days.) He has white gloves, and well, what you see is really what you get. There are no surprises here, but a high novelty punch will make this one worth picking up. Do get one, or two. Figures like this show that LEGO isn't afraid to make something funny or cool, so do your part and get one. Viva los fabulos... uh... Danish toy designers.
* = "We are the Coyote Men. We like our beer cold. We like our meat red. And we like our women ugly."
